Valentines Day Survival Kit

Last year, a couple days after Valentines or was that before, my sister gave me this Valentines Day Survival kit. I was surprised she gave it to me because it clearly stated in the cute packaging that it is meant to be gifted to single and.broken hearted people. Was she cursing my Vday? I Hope not because I almost got my Vday cold this year. Phew.

Anyway, this Vday Survival Kit has Chocolate Kisses, Vodka, Coffee, Tissue, Bandaid and discount movies . I think its a cute kit and each item in it has a meaning.

Fortune Cookies

I love fortune cookies, be it may a virtual one or the real one like this:

The excitement of cracking the shell open and unrolling the scroll inside is one of the things that excites me each time I get one that is real. It is like one of those raypak pool heaters that are energizing and relaxing at the same time especially when a good proverb or a saying is revealed to you.

Valentine’s Date Dinner

I’m sure most of you are now planning a perfect Valentine’s date with your loved ones. There are and hundreds of restaurants out there offering dinner for two while some hotels are now offering room accommodations and dinner. Some airline are offering discounted fare and travel packages you can enjoy this February and not just limited to the Valentines day.

There’s so many things you can do this V-Day. One of my suggestion is for you to check out the 17th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Festival that will start on February 9., 2012 to February 12, 2012. A candlelit dinner at the last day of the show while the night glow and the balloons are starting to take off while the sun set is a perfect setting to propose to your love. Or you can go for a hotair balloon ride or try out the tandem paragliding. Or if you are more of the adventurous one the free sky jump experience.

Anyway any of these fun adventure will be a fun suggestions as valentines day gifts from husband right?

Happy Valentines! :)

Watermelon and Green Mango Shake

I love fruit shakes. They are so refreshing and full of healthy vitamins that are anti-aging and anti-oxidants. Watermelon and Green Mango shake are already popular tropical drinks we have in the country but they are usually served separately. It was my first time to try a combination of both and it was surprisingly good. Its not too sour or sweet the contrast of the sweet watermelon and the sour green mango blended very well. Indeed a perfect and refreshing drink you should try yourself. This one is served at the Le Bistro Vert in Makati.

Christmas In Disneyland

Christmas is definitely for kids and if you want to give them the best Christmas they can have, taking them to Disneyland or simply by having them watch the Disney on Ice will make their Christmas special.

Three years ago, we spent Christmas in HongKong Disneyland and it was one of the best Christmas ever despite getting really tired of all the walk and waiting in line. The faux snow, the lovely fireworks, and seeing the Disney characters for real is just so amazing, even for adults like me.

You can book your holiday by subscribing to the disney packages you can get online or have a DIY trip which will be less expensive yet a bit tiring because you will be planning everything for you and the family or friends (whoever you may want to spend Chistmas with) . With a package you have to go with the flow or what was on the itinerary of your travel agency.

2011 Christmas

Since my father passed away three years ago, we haven’t spent Christmas at home.  But this year I think we will because we are cutting down on expenses and rather give whatever we can to those who lost everything they have because of the typhoon Sendong in Mindanao, particularly Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete.

I would like to cook for them my famous spaghetti but I think it will be spoiled when it reach them.   I would like to host a blog , links or banner for sale for a cause so as to give away to those who are trying to cope by the recent disaster in Mindanao.  I have friends there and are very depressed and oppressed.  I would like to give them water pumps so they can have potable drinking water which they don’t have right now. Ironic isn’t it? Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink!

I hope you hear my call and support my cause. If you are interested send comment to this post and type of advertising, blog post or link. Minimum amount is Php500.00.

Scrumptious Filipino Dishes at Romulo Cafe

I forgot where I read but the reason why Filipino dishes don’t make it to the international scene is because there’s no standard way of cooking a recipe like our famous Adobo and Pinakbet.  There’s always different variety of cooking them like Adobo sa puti, Adobong Tuyo, Pinakbet ng Ilocos, Pinakbet ng Tagalog and the like. With that said, when you go to an international food buffet, there’s no section for Filipino dishes that can be found in the Asian food section, mostly its Chinese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Thai or Malaysian dishes. Challenging every foreign visitor to eat Balut and making it the “must try” food to eat in the Philippines doesn’t help either.  I don’t eat Balut and I won’t dare my foreign friends and visitors to try it even for the heck of trying it unless they are willing to try exotic foods.

If you want to make a good impression on how delicious Filipino food is, I suggest to take them to a very good restaurant serving authentic Filipino dishes that are done in a very creative way.  Romulo Cafe is one great restaurant that I can say you can be proud of taking all your foreign visitors.  The Food is prepared in a very creative way and they taste really good too! For starters there is this Filipino Nachos made of sweet potatoes IMAG4185

The Flying Tilapia –  a crispy fried Tilapia that is formed like a flying fish! I know there are foreigners who don’t like their food staring at them, if that is the case they can ask the waiter to immediately de-bone the fish before serving.  But if you want a photo op then serve as is.  It is served with five different kinds of sauces like chili, soysauce and vinegar, ketchup, patis and kalamansi.  Yum! Aside from the delicious food they served in there. The interiors in this restaurant is so classy. Despite having only two colors (black and white) they were able to make it so lively to look at. Hand painted graphics on the wall and black and white paintings showcasing photos of the late President Carlos P. Romulo. Yes, there’s a touch of history and nationalism in this cafe too, because the restaurant was named after the former Philippine President Carlos P. Romulo. The menu bearing the signature of the former president I didn’t go to the washroom though so I didn’t see how it was or if there are some clawfoot tubs in there.
