The battle of canned corned tuna begins!
My daughter and I are such tuna lovers and so when San Marino with their very obvious endorser Darna, a show my mom watched religiously, and it’s actress and actor endorser Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, I have to try it.
San Marino corned tuna claimed it has less oil and more meat. True to it claims it has less oil. I wasn’t impressed at first taste, to me it tasted bland. So I have to put my own flavoring and made my adobo tuna, with lots and lots of garlic.
And then Century Tuna came with their own version of corned tuna with Derek Ramsey as its endorser, I can’t resist.
I opened both cans simultaneously. I opened the San Marino Corned Tuna first and then the Century Tuna Corned Tuna. Now I see the obvious difference. The smell!

San Marino Corned Tuna smells really good. Century Tuna Corned Tuna smells fishy. I can smell the stench of fish, and my cats love such smell so they trooped me as I opened the cans.
San Marino is not salty and the taste is just right, it does taste healthy. Century Corned Tuna taste fishy, I can also taste the onions in it. It’s very salty compared to San Marino.

I put both in an enclosed container and opened the Century Tuna first then the San Marino to see if I was just being biased when it comes to smell, the slightly foul odor from the Century Tuna is very prominent, while San Marino doesn’t have that fishy smell.

masubukan nga yang San Marino na yan. naku-curious ako e.
[...] Marino with an intriguing innovation, a corned tuna. I tasted both and here is what I think about San Marino vs. Century corned tuna. Related Posts:Swedish Massage Treat At Blue Water Day SpaKaryll vs. Marian Rivera On Blue Water [...]
nice review! love the corned tuna of san marino… my mom always buy this brand because she’s a huge dongyan fan… (lol!) haven’t tried the century one because i haven’t seen one in any local grocery store i went to…
but yes san marino is always in our kitchen shelves
Hi…
I knew that there is something wrong the Century’s corned tuna… the fishy smell…. Although, the century’s tuna is my staple food for years and years and still is.
The San marino is different. Less oily and less everything. Soon to be staple in our place.
Thanks for the reviews.
@ Ayn I have to be objective with this tunas because my daughter loves it. I was really surprised that San Marino doesn’t have an unpleasant smell compared to Century tuna and that it taste better too. I guess second versions always come better sometimes.
@ Babysaffron I think my nose is too sensitive for smells and taste so I was able to smell the difference immediately.
I’m a San Marino Corned Tuna fan. I guess more people are now finding San Marino to be yummier than Century Tuna’s. Madalas ma-out of stock dito sa amin eh.
Dito rin ambilis maubos. I agree with all the posts here, panalo talaga! Balita ko pa Filipino naginnovate niyan and nagformulate ng lasa.
nope, it was a foreign formulation..
pero good thing it’s here in the Philippines!!!
at syempre, dahil madaming nacurious, ubos lagi sa market..
pero still, iba pa din taste ng century… mas madami tuna compared to the new tuna player
I was always buying Century before.. But not anymore nung natikman ko San Marino corned tuna. But to be sure, I tasted Century corned tuna pero malayo ang lasa ng San Marino. Sorry Century but the new brand is better.
grabeng sarap talaga ng san marino corned tuna, both the regular and chili version. i tried mixing 1 can of each and it’s good for those who like it mild spicy lang. anyone who hasn’t tried san marino should really try it, you wont regret it!
I tried both, too. san marino is okay but i kinda have been a fan of century (the tuna mismo) so when i tasted century corned tuna that loyalty kicked in. hehe. =)
is it true? i found on a write-up after googling that century actually has less salt and more protein? after all, yan ang promise ng brand nila eh. healthy.
for the taste, i go for san marino corned tuna and for a healthy lifestyle, i’ll stick to century tuna!
ang tanga naman ninyo ,iniiwasan nyo ang salt ,water retention lng yang salt, pro ang sugar na mron sa san marino convert yan into fats. mas healthy parin ang century tuna
Well I disagree, I am a tuna lover and mimonski and vrent are definitely correct. This is a paid ad definitely.
I am a tuna lover. i did agree with mimonski and vrentand this ad, definitely paid.
sakin naman, mas tama yung lasa ng century. tapos mas mababa din ung salt content nya so i think mas healthy sya. favorite ko yung chili na flavor kasi hindi o.a. ung lasa…
@ RJ lol I wish they did pay me for this lol but nope. Our taste differs according to our preference and to say this one is paid because it doesn’t jive with your preference is simply immature.
parang biased at baligtad ang review. mas maalat ang san marino at mas mabango ang century for me. pati sa laman, mas siksik ang century. anyway, ikaw lang naman ang nagreview and you based it on your personal preference. but i hope in your future review, try to come up with a way like a taste test involving at least 5 persons and telling them the brand after they already gave their vote. that way, your review can be credible and helpful. try to view this reply in a constructive manner. cheers
thanks for the suggestion but this is my personal blog so I don’t need to get 5 people to review for me that’s the purpose of this blog my personal opinion on the food I tried. cheers.
i love corned tuna too.. chili variant please!
Yummy!
